A counterweight is a weight equal to another. A counterweight is one of the five major components to a trebuchet. they have also been used in elevator, cranes, and funfair rides. if the trebuchet didn't have a counterweight the trebuchet would not fire accurately. Counterweights can be used for many different things and objects. I found a picture of some counterweights on www.stormthecastle.com/.../trebuchet-build3.htm ![See full size image](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_sh-PCcpMHDcOylEIN1xdiWT8NknvLymdC-32C_N-aazQFg2i8Hs9dLBQSKIgtcyM0Lw535tOwnoLoyrdLEu3MctZ9UACMZ59M9YmAt3rDZRDPZww6FXHZ06srqAq1zekWhFmGdJtAZn6VHHJ3hZzL0wDTcaEG9HiFgeQIKxTCxRqwbdprLnautgtJTaYlTpyHIGOu6TQ=s0-d)

Ending of trebuchet
Throughout all of my research i have found many differents facts about trebuchets and how they work. For example, the trebuchet went obsolete in the 13 century. the reason trebuchets went obsolete is because pople were introduced to gunpowder. Many trebuchets are still being used today. Now when trebuchets are used people use them for fun and to have competitions.

Throwing arm
One other main part of the trebuchet was the throwing arm. It is used to sling object such as corpses and large stones, that weight at least over 200 pounds. If the trebuchet didn't have a throwing arm it wouldn't be of much use. The throwing arm weighs at least over half a ton. these are some pictures of throwing arms. I found these at www.travelaroundeurope.co.uk/warwick/warwick-... and tantaurus.net/trebuchet/php/project_details.php .

The Sling
The sling is the oldest projectile weapon. It used on trebuchets so that you can throw the projectile. They hold it up by using two strings. when it is ready to be fired they attach one part of the rope to the hook and it slides off so the projectile can be thrown. Here is a picture of the sling used on the trebuchet.

Beginning of trebuchet
I have been studying about trebuchets and i've found some very interesting facts. A trebuchet is a type of catapult and it appeared in the 4th century. The word trebuchet is a french word and it is a seige engine. It can also throw five to six times more than the any catapult. The parts that i'm going to learn more about is the trestle, throwing arm, the sling, and the counter-weight. Here is a picture of two trebuchets
. These are some of the most medieval trebuchets i've seen and i got them from military.discovery.com/.../weapon-07.html .
